The Carménère grape, a variety originally from Bordeaux, has miraculously survived for more than a century in Chile where for many years it was confused with Merlot. In Aconcagua Valley it thrives and attains its maximum organoleptic expression benefitting from long autumn months with no rain or hail. In Panquehue, Carménère was planted on the granitic soil of the slopes of Orocoipo hill. Our Gran Reserva embodies a high degree of complexity and delicacy: it’s the wine that Bacchus would carry in his satchel…
von Siebenthal Carmenère
von Siebenthal, Carménère, 750 ml
Variety: Assemblage
Viña von Siebenthal, Panquehue, Aconcagua Valley
Composition: 85% Carménère & 15% Cabernet Sauvignon
Vintage: 2010
Oenologist: Mauro von Siebenthal & Darwin Oyarce
Pairing: This assemblage wine loves grilled dishes, as the nature of the meat mirrors the bitter edge of the tannin in the wine. Serve at 16-18°C.
Tasting notes:
Colour: Deep ruby red colour with violet reflections.
Aromas: It has a subtle red currant and redberry-scented bouquet with touches of sous-bois, hazelnut and aromatic herbs that are very attractive.
Palate: The palate is medium-bodied with subtle tannins and pure red berry fruit mixed with black pepper, sage and cured meats. It is very well-balanced and fresh, the finish supple and in tune with the oak.
